SEO stands for “search engine optimization.” It is the process of getting traffic from the “free,” “organic,” “editorial” or “natural” search results on search engines.
How to do SEO?
Let’s break down SEO and take an in-depth look at the parts:
- Quality of traffic- You want to attract visitors who are genuinely interested in products that you offer. You can attract visitors from all over the world, but if they think your site sells Lawn Services when in reality you’re an apperal company, that is not quality traffic.
- Quantity of traffic- You want more of the right people clicking to your page.
- Organic results- Any traffic that you do not have to pay for.
How SEO Happens
A search enine may be viewed as a crazy box that generates a list of links for you to view that is similar to your search request.
While that is true. Have you ever stopped and thought about what’s exactly behind those little, magical lists of links?
Here’s what happens: Google has a system called a crawler that collects information about every piece of content they can find on the Internet. The crawlers bring all of that information back in the form of 1s and 0s back to the search engine. The search engine then builds an index. That index is given to an algorithm that attempts to match the data with your search. That’s what the SE (search engine) of SEO is.
The O is where the people, like us, that write the content and put it on their sites to please the search engines. Search engines will be able to understand what they’re seeing, and the users who arrive via search will like what they see. It’s a huge game that we are playing to be #1 on the list.
Optimization can look like many different things. It can look like Meta Descriptions or Title Tags or even Local SEO is a large portion of optimization.
